Fishing Pools

There is a choice of five carp pools, another with some roach and perch in and a further one with some rather shy tench in.

These pools are not regularly fished and are only available to fish when booking our accommodation, making sure that they are virtually exclusive. The fish are undamaged and we wish to retain their health, we expect our visitors to use only barbless hooks and have clean, washed  keepnets or not use keepnets at all.

For the first time fisher, or if you have children or friends you would like to teach, we allow fishing in the house pool for a limited period of time, so as to understand how to land a fish, and handle them with the care they deserve.

Walking

The cottages are adjacent to a footpath/bridlepath and so there is no need to use the car to access the network of footpaths. As a visitor to Fairoak barns you can take advantage of a simple circuit of a forestry road which is relatively easy , taking approximately one hour.

The footpath to the north follows the B5026 to loggerheads, where there is Burntwood – a forestry commission woodland area with many paths in. Alternatively turning right before Ashley Heath will lead you into a labarrynth of little country lanes and access to the three village pubs- The Robin Hood, the Meynall and the Peel arms. The footpath to the south leads to Fairoak village and then onto Copmere pools – a days walk taking in The Star public house and the Tea rooms at Sugnall.

There are some local stables and a riding school – Why not arrange a days pony trekking ?

Bringing your own bike ? then use the bridle path to get you to the lanes and get further afield to Eccleshall or Market Drayton. We have a lock up garage to keek your bikes secure overnights or if you are travelling to local attractions and don’t want to haul them about.

A BBQ is available to use , just bring your own charcoal and relax and enjoy the surroundings for a perfect end to a tiring day exploring the locality.

Night Walks
Late autumn / Early Winter is a great time to enjoy the night sky – we have very little light pollution and so many stars are visible which are normally obscured by streetlights. On a moonlit night why not enjoy a brief stroll up the drive and back or take the forestry road circuit, taking in the night air and listen out for all the night sounds which break the silence.

An early morning will always greet you with birdsong helping you to relax and wind down from the everyday stresses and strains that you have escaped from whilst you stay at Fairoak Barns .
